The present invention provides an automatic recording selecting method for a facsimile unit. This method includes the steps of: establishing a call if a ring signal is sensed in a state where an automatic response function is set when a user is absent, and sending an information message; checking if a recipient code is input from an opposite party; starting a recording if a corresponding code is input, and reinputting by a given number if the corresponding code is not input; and if a recipient is selected, recording for a given period of time (TD2' sec.), and if a no dial tone signal is detected for a given period of time (TD1), stopping and completing the recording.
