<p>The administration of nitric a oxide in controlled doses to horses during high intensity exercise is described. The nitric oxide is beneficial to prevent exercise induced pulmonary hemorrhaging by reducing pulmonary artery pressure with concomitant compensating reduction in pulmonary vascular resistance. The nitric oxide is either administered to the equine through inhalation during exercise or via a stand alone nitric oxide gas source (12) followed by an intramuscular injection of nitric oxide augmenter prior to exercise.</p> |
