A kit-form insert for use in an alcoholic drink ageing container comprises a holder and spacer (2), which can be joined together to separate a series of wooden strips (1) which are placed inside a container of a non-wooden material (such as plastics) while an alcoholic beverage in the container is maturing. The insert (preferably of injection moulded plastics) comprises a central section (3) and two ends (5) which are shaped to engage with holes (1a,1b) at each end of the wooden strips. Each holder/spacer attaches to two wooden strips, leaving projecting male ends (6) which are joined by connectors to other holder/spacers, making up a suitable shape for fitting into the beverage container. The wooden strips can be joined together by a series of holder/spacers and connectors to make a circular, oval or other shape, depending on the shape of the container.
