Hybrid vehicle drive system with internal combustion and electric engines

The vehicle has a drive source with fuel-burning IC engine to drive the vehicle in a number of travelling modes. A regulatable device (18) between drive source and drive wheels has an automatic transmission with different transmission ratios, and a number of clutch devices (B,C). A control device operates the clutch devices dependent upon input torques detected by it. The device has an element to estimate the input torque of the automatic transmission dependent upon a travelling mode selected at that time from the number of available modes.
