[Class 46] [Also in Group XXIII] An apparatus for removing contaminants from coolant liquid for machine tools or grinders comprises a receptacle having downwardly-sloping bottom wall, an approximately U-shaped conduit structure having tubular arms extending downward to the lower part of the receptacle and a connecting conduit portion extending through the lower part, the connecting portion having an opening in the upper part thereof to receive contaminants settling down in the receptacle, an endless conveyer extending through the conduit, and driving mechanism engaging its external portion. As shown, coolant from a grinding wheel D, Fig. 1, falls on to a screen 25, Fig. 2, forming an inlet to a tank 5, and passes under a partition 28, beyond which solid matter settles through a gap between flanges 12 and 15 of sloping walls 11 and 14 respectively, into an open-topped portion 41, Fig. 3, of a conduit structure 45-50, the edges of the portion 41 being, secured to the flanges 12, 15, while coolant rises and flows over a second partition 29 into a compartment 4 from which it is returned to the grinding machine by a pump 37. Solid matter is moved through the conduit structure 45 ... 50 which is attached to sides 17 of the tank 5 and rests on a bracket 52 by a conveyer 75, Fig. 5, the external part of which is engaged by a pulley driven by a motor 68 on an adjustable plate 61 mounted on the ends of the conduit. The conveyer engages the insides of the bends 45 to obviate the need for guide wheels. The conveyer 75 comprises a chain on alternate links of which, are mounted flight elements of resilient material 82 secured between lugs 79 and plates 84, and providing a clearance past which liquid drains back into the tank. Solid matter falls from a plate 88 into a receptacle 93. A foam-removal opening 26 is provided in the side of the tank 5.</p> |
