PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To easily and inexpensively manufacture a wire having a brass surface or a section in which a zinc content is made variable if necessary. SOLUTION: In the manufacture of a wire made of a brass for its surface, which is used for wire electric discharge machining, the temperature of a steel wire coated with a zinc layer is set to a temperature (T1 ) sufficient for forming a brass phaseβ, for instance 750 deg.C, and this temperature is maintained until zinc is completely dispersed. Alternatively, after the peripheral zone of the brass phaseβand a center steel zone are formed, the wire is heated to a temperature (T2 ) sufficient for obtaining a brass phaseα, for instance 950 deg.C, and this temperature (T2 ) is maintained until the brass phaseαis realized by the dispersion of the center steel zone.
