The light fitting has a mounting ring (1) set around the mounting recess. A pivot axis (6) on one side of the ring, set back into the recess, supports the lamp about an offset axis. This ensures that when the lamp fitting is pulled down it tilts to one side into a position where most of the light still shines down rather be trapped behind the recess. The offset from the centre vertical axis is less than the diameter of the mounting ring. The ring can be rotated in the fitting to direct the tilted light beam into any direction.
