PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a lithographic machine plate material for a laser direct process having a good water retentivity in its laser irradiation part and being not susceptible to fouling the ground part of a printed matter by forming a recording layer containing a thermoplastic polymer having an absorption zone in the ultraviolet region and permitting an average roughness of the center line to be specific in the surface. SOLUTION: In a lithographic machine plate for a laser direct process, by irradiating a pulse oscillation laser, the image forming recording layer is allowed to contain a thermoplastic polymer having an absorption zone in its ultraviolet region, and an average roughness of the center line is made into 0.2-1.0μm in its surface. The thermoplastic polymer is a general purpose thermoplastic polymer, and it is preferable that the thermoplastic polymer has a high degree of glass transition temperature (Tg) and ultraviolet ray absorption, and also preferable that the thermoplastic polymer has particularly Tg of 160 deg.C or higher, an absorbance of 1×10<2> cm<-1> or more in its oscillation wave length, of lazer, and particularly, of 5×10<2> cm<-1> or more. Also, Ra in the recording layer surface is further preferably 0.3-0.7×m.
