Uniformly substituted polysaccharide derivatives of formula Polysaccharide-O-R (I) are claimed. In (I), Polysaccharide-O = optionally substituted polysaccharide unit and R = a substituent on a Polysaccharide-OH group selected from -A-B- or -B- in which A = linear polyether chain of formula (-D-O-)n in which D = a linear aliphatic branched or unbranched group with 2-12 C and n is a number≥1, and B = substituted carbamic acid of formula -C(O)-NHE in which E = 1-18 C linear or branched aliphatic chain. Also claimed are thermoplastic processable urethane derivatives of polysaccharides or polysaccharide ethers of formula (I) obtained by reacting the (I) with isocyanates or blocked isocyanates to an average degree of substitution (with respect to anhydroglucose units) of D.S .= 0.3-3.0 (0.6-2.5). The polysaccharide urethane derivatives may be mixed with low molecular symmetrical and non-symmetrical aliphatic urea derivatives or mixtures of these with a chain length of 1-20 C.
