PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an inexpensive martensitic stainless steel excellent in sulfide stress corrosion cracking resistance. SOLUTION: This steel has a composition consisting of, by weight, 0.005-0.05% C, 0.05-0.5% Si, 0.1-1.0% Mn, <0.025% P, <0.015% S, 10-15% Cr, 3.0-6.0% Ni, 0.5-3% Mo, 0.005-0.2% Al, 0.005-0.1% N, and the balance Fe with inevitable impurities or further containing 0.5-3% Cu and also has a structure in which tempered martensite phase andγ-phase exist as a mixture and the volume fraction of theγ-phase is regulated to >=20%.
