PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject compound useful for cosmetics, preparation for external use, etc., on an industrial scale at a low cost by reacting a specific organic hydroxy compound with a phosphorus oxyhalide in the presence of a Lewis acid catalyst containing Ti, Mg or Al. SOLUTION: The objective phosphoric acid triester useful for cosmetics, preparation for external use, etc., is easily produced in high purity and yield in a short reaction time by reacting one or more kinds of organic hydroxy compounds of formula I (R<1> is an 11-36C alkyl) or formula II (R<2> is a 1-24C alkyl; A is a 2-4C alkylene; (n) is an average addition molar number of alkylene oxide and is 1-50) (e.g. 2-methyldecyl alcohol) with a phosphorus oxyhalide (e.g. phosphorus oxychloride) using 1-20mol% (based on the phosphorus oxyhalide) of a Lewis acid catalyst containing Ti, Mg or Al (e.g. TiCl4 ). |
