Disclosed are methods for the recombinant production of hepatitis G virus antigens in soluble form or in a form in which they are incorporated in a membrane, as well as their use in the detection of the hepatitis G virus for diagnostic purposes. The antigens are preferably produced using a eukaryotic host cell.
