In order to make corrections on a vehicle speed, the indication of which gets out of order due to a pitching action of a vehicle body, with a high accuracy and at a low cost, a vehicle speed value obtained by a Doppler sensor is corrected on the basis of an angular velocity around the center of gravity of the vehicle, and the center of the turning of the vehicle during the pitching thereof and the turning of the Doppler sensor are taken into consideration when the correction operation is carried out. In order that the Doppler sensor can be fixed to a high portion of the vehicle body without increasing an output level, the correction of the beam angle of depression of the Doppler sensor with respect to a difference between the actual Doppler sensor fixing height and a proper Doppler sensor fixing height is stored as a predetermined function, and the correction of beam angle of depression in the condition in which the Doppler sensor is fixed to an actual vehicle is computed with correction of the beam angle of depression taken into consideration, the vehicle speed being corrected on the basis of the computed beam angle of depression.
