The disinfection and sterilisation of non-sterile products, particularly medical products, is disclosed. For this purpose, an ozone treatment is combined with a later treatment with beta/gamma X-ray radiation or an electron beam at a low dosage such that a low-power source, particularly of less than 100,000 Curies for the gamma source and less than 5 kW for the electron accelerator, may be used. The method is industrially applicable in hospitals, particularly for treating hospital waste, and enables on-site integration.
