<p>There is provided a process for preparation of glass particles and the sorting of glass particles to various sizes. The particles are produced from glass by the initially passing glass stock through a knurler, which reduces the size of the glass particles to less than 25 mm and also removes any aluminium ring collars. The glass particles are then passed through a magnetic band to separate any magnetic materials in the glass, before the glass is passed onto a grinding stage. The glass is ground into generally cubic particles varying from microsize to 20 mm. The microsized particles can be used as a flexible fire retardant material, an anti-skid material a blasting material and can also be used to increase friction resistance on brake linings. The larger particles can be used for illumination in tunnel linings and in construction.</p> |
