<p>The press for internal folding of the edge (14) of a metal lid (12) with a lateral cylindrical surface (13) incorporates a first press element (16) with a punch (17) shaped to accurately fit the outer surface of the lid, and a second press element (18) located coaxially to the first press element. The second press element includes uniformly distributed sectors (20) which form a ring structure and are provided with inclined guide surfaces, and initiate the edge folding process. A counter-punch (26) is capable of a relative axial motion opposite to the ring structure. A device (36,38) presses the sectors radially outwards during this relative axial motion. The sectors (20) are pressed radially inwards by elastic elements. They are pressed radially outwards by the contacting ramp surfaces located respectively on the counter-punch and on the sectors.</p> |
