Silicon powder coated with silicic acid ester

A silicon powder having an average particle size of 1-300 mu m is coated with 0.1-10 (preferably 0.5-5) wt.% silicic acid ester of the type R'-Si(OR)3, R'R''-Si(OR)2, R'R"R"'-Si(OR) or its hydrolysates (where, R = H, hydrocarbyl or polyether; and R',R",R"' = H-, halogen-, amino-, alkyl-, or arylamino-, mercapto-, thioether-, carboxy-, ester-, ether-, epoxy-, amido-, vinyl-functionalised aliphatic, alicyclic, heterocyclic or aromatic residues). Also claimed is the production of the above silicon powder by adding a silicic acid ester to an aqueous dispersion of silicon powder.
