The pliers have two hand lever grips (1,2) with jaws (4,5) defining a gripping space (7) which opens in the direction of the lever grips. The space has at least one cutting edge (8) and a stop (9) which engage the weight. The stop is mounted on at least one jaw, or on an extension (6) of the jaw. The stop defines an engagement depth for the jaw which is less than the overall thickness of a weight plate. The stop depth can be adjustable.
