The halves (1,2) slide on each other via guides. Hooks (6) at the top of the top half suspend the ladder so that it swings on a horizontal axis on a fixed component (9). A lever (12) hinges via a horizontal axis on one top-half upright, on which an oblong component (20) slides in the lengthwise direction, bearing against a top edge on the lever with the latter in different angular positions, preventing the hooks coming loose from the component. Locking devices on the bottom part of the lever secure the ladder halves together with the lever in different angular positions, so that the tongs (3,4) on the ladder halves are at the same horizontal levels.
