The present invention provides a heat sensitive recording material comprising a recording layer formed on a substrate and containing a colorless or light-colored basic dye and a color acceptor, the material being characterized in that 1-phenoxy-2-(2-naphthoxy)ethane and/or 1,3-bis(2-naphthoxy)propane is incorporated in the recording layer, and a method of using the heat sensitive recording material.
