The invention relates to a system for testing a computer built into a control device. A voltage supply unit is provided for supplying the control unit and thus the computer with voltage. The test result can be displayed on a display unit and/or provision can be made to allow switching off of the system regulated and/or controlled by the control device. The essence of the invention lies in the fact that the control unit has means for switching the computer to defined operating modes. In addition, detection means are also provided for determining the current or voltage in the voltage supply circuit of the computer; the current or voltage thus determined is then compared by the comparison means with at least one predetermined threshold value. To activate the display device and/or effect switching off, actuating means are provided which, depending on the result of the comparison, display an error or respond to such an error by switching off the entire system or parts thereof.
