A new technique is described for the design of a valve which is to be employed in systems which incorporate gas flow control management. The valve of the present invention has a valve assembly and a control element which provides control of the valve cycle rate of the valve assembly. Varying a control signal of the control element causes a pressure differential across a selected piston of the valve assembly and causes a poppet of the valve assembly to disconnected from the selected piston and connect to a new piston. In this way, the valve cycle rate of the valve assembly is controlled. The valve of the present invention described offers improvements over prior art valves in the areas of product economy and valve cycle rate control. An improvement in economy is effected because the described invention does not require a gear motor for operation, which reduces cost. A controllable, variable linear valve cycle rate is achieved which is not restricted by the RPM characteristics of a gear motor.
