PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To detect a movement area from continuous frames in an input picture by applying wavelet transformation in order to specify an area requiring updating at high priority in the display of a ferroelectric type liquid crystal device. SOLUTION: A picture block 301 is obtained from a current frame of a picture sequence and transformed into a multiplexed resolution block 303 by the execution of wavelet transformation processing. On the other hand, a reference block 304 is a multiplexed resolution block corresponding to the preceding frame of the picture sequence. Wavelet decomposed blocks 303, 304 are mutually compared in each resolution levels to calculate a block difference. Or the picture of the current frame is wavelet-transformed in multistage, the multiplexed coefficient block of the preceding frame is inverted in multistage and a coefficient block to be transformed at each resolution level is compared with each inverted coefficient block. |
