An umbrella (20), having a curved handle (21) with an end (22) which can be rested on a horizontal surface, has a non-slip tip (40) attached to the end of the handle so that it does not slip off the horizontal surface. The non-slip tip has a hemispherical head with a base more or less the same diameter as the umbrella handle, and it can be fitted to the handle by a rod-shaped projection which engages with a socket, or a flat surface which is glued in place. The non-slip tip can be made from rubber or PVC.
