摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce crosstalk by driving the anitferroelectric liquid crystal element with signal waveforms of voltages of at least three kinds of levels as a scanning voltage applied to each scanning electrode in a selection period. SOLUTION: The scanning voltage applied to each scanning electrode in the selection period has at least three kinds of level. In this case, the scanning voltage Vr of the voltage of a write pulse is applied according to a polarity signal inverted in every frame cycle in the selection period, then a hold voltage Vb having the same polarity with the scanning voltage is applied, and then a reset period wherein no voltage is applied is provided. Then when the three kinds of voltage (pulse) having scanning electrode waveform and signal electrode waveform have pulse widthsτ1,τ2, andτ3 in order and the write pulse has widthτp, they are so related thatτ1=1/2τ2=τ3=1/2×τp and when respective voltage widths from the mean potential of the three pulses are denoted as▵V1,▵V2, and▵V3 in order, they are so related that▵V1=-▵V2=▵V3.
