PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a lamp formed so as to emit the light in the lamp even if mercury or a mercury compound is not used. SOLUTION: A sealed light transmissive vessel 18 and a volatile chemical packing material put in this vessel 18 are provided. In this case, the packing material, contains phosphorus or a volatile compound of phosphorus as a primary active component. Inert gas is put in the vessel to assist starting of the lamp 10, and this inert gas is put under pressure lower than 760Torr at an ambient temperature. Impressing devices 14 and 16 to join high frequency electric power to the vessel 18 are arranged to generate light emitting plasma discharge in the vessel 18. |
