<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a holding device formed such that a stress exerted on an article along with holding is suppressed as much as possible. SOLUTION: In a holding device to hold an article 13 nipped between a fixing member 4 and a moving member 3 relatively moved based on the fixed member 4, a fixed electrode 8 and a moving electrode 6 mounted on the moving member 3 relatively moved with the moving electrode positioned facing the fixed electrode 8 with a fine distance S1 therebetween are provided. A material 12 selected from electric rheology fluid having an electric rheology effect or electric field coagulation type powder coagulated through application of a voltage is located between the electrodes 6 and 8. The moving member 3 is stopped at the fixed electrode 8 by increasing viscosity of electric rheology fluid or coagulating the electric field coagulation type powder by applying a voltage on the electrodes 6 and 8.</p> |
