BRANCHING CONNECTOR FOR AN UNDERGROUND CABLE

A branching connector for an underground cable is disclosed. The connector enables the electrical interconnection of a main cable and at least one branch cable each consisting of a metal core surrounded by an insulating sheath and including opposed lower (10) and upper (12) bodies clamped together. Each body includes a contact element at least partially made of metal and located in a transverse plane relative to an axial direction of the cables. Said element pierces both the insulator of the main cable and that of the branch cable and engages the cable cores when the upper and lower bodies are urged together by at least one clamping means (14), and a non-conductive movable separating member (70) lying in the mid-plane of the connector is provided for the noncontact interconnection of two branch cables.
