The belt (6) has numerous dogs (8) protruding from its surface and spaced apart. These include an angle with the transport direction (T) and extend over virtually the whole width of the belt. Devices (16) secure the items handled (15) in the transverse direction, and can consist of ribs (17,18) at right angles to the dogs and protruding from the belt surface. Each dog can consist of driving pins (9) spaced apart and protruding from the belt surface, while the devices can form cruciform feet in front of the pins, each foot being integral with a pin, while the pins can be in rows. Each dog can consist of two rows of pins in a V-shape.
