The present invention discloses an optical information carrier comprising a plastic laminate (1) containing microscopically fine projecting structures (5) between two protective layers (2, 3). An adhesive layer (7) which is disposed in a plastic laminate surface (1) allows the information carrier to be attached to an article (8) which is be protected. Optical marks (6) can be irreversibly altered by power action. An information track is formed at least from two parallel bands, each having an optical mark on the entire surface (6), said optical mark comprising the light diffracting projecting structure (5) associated with the band. Information is registered in the information carrier by alteration of the optical properties in said optical marks (6), thereby producing a design comprising fields having original optical properties or modified optical properties. The possible uses of the present information carrier are included in the area relative to authorization verification with mechanical reading units (13) in connection with external units (16).
