PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an automatic answering function with which a response in a message with picture and the recording/reproducing of a message with picture from a party can be performed at a video telephone. SOLUTION: The video telephone for transmitting/receiving a voice and a data compressed image through a telephone line is provided with memories 61 and 62 for the response message and incoming message in voice and memories 71 and 72 for the response message and incoming message in the data compressed image and corresponding to the transmission mode setting on the opposite side detected by an automatic response control circuit 27, either the transmission of response message just in voice and the recording of incoming message or the transmission of response message with picture and the recording of incoming message are selected. |
