An apparatus and a method for producing fully oriented and relaxed filament yarns from synthetic polymer with a thermal treatment following stretching is proposed wherein the filament yarn, together with the condensing process steam is heated under pressure in a treatment conduit having at least two narrow passages and is relaxed, wherein the wind-up tension of the yarn is simultaneously reduced to <0.15 cN/dtex. The filament yarn produced in this way is also protected.
