The invention concerns a hydraulic vehicle brake system with a proposed actuating unit which is actuated by means of a brake pedal. In order to reduce the danger of injury that can arise especially through a driving accident, the invention proposes that means (32) are provided in the working chamber of the brake booster (1) to effect an effective increase in the pressure of the working chamber above atmospheric pressure in the event of an accident.
