PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a bar code reader which can decide a bar code even when the bar code has the defective areas by preparing a shift means that moves a cartridge to shift the position of the bar code against the bar code reader. SOLUTION: A bar code reader 1 and a shift means 2 of a cartridge C are prepared to read the information recorded on a bar code C1 that is shown on the outer circumference surface of the cartridge C. The means 2 shifts the position of the code C1 in its readable range against the reader 1 and is also provided with a motor 21, a gear 22 which revolves forward and backward to the motor 21, and a rack 23. The rack 23 is fixed to a cartridge holder 4. In such a constitution, the normal and non-defective part of the code C1 is irradiated by the light of the reader 1, so that the contents of the code C1 can be read even when the code C1 has the defective areas such as stains or scratches, etc. |
