LIQUID CRYSTAL ELEMENT AND ITS PRODUCTION

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress the occurrence of display defect regions by a difference in level between a substrate and transparent electrodes by reducing this difference. SOLUTION: This liquid crystal element 1 has the transparent electrodes 7 consisting of ITO films on a glass substrate 5 and auxiliary electrodes 10 consisting of molybdenum films on the upper layer. The transparent electrodes 7 patterned in alignment to the auxiliary electrodes 10 are formed to 50 to 300Åfilm thickness, by which the difference in level in the stepped parts 11 between the glass substrate 5 and the transparent electrodes 7 is extremely reduced and the occurrence of display defect regions arising from the difference in the inversion speed of ferroelectric liquid crystals 12 near the regions of the stepped parts 11 is suppressed.
