<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve troubles such as too long GLV(grating light valve) element train due to the constitution of GLV element train prepared by simply arranging necessary number of GLV elements, low production yield due to larger size as an optical modulator and the incurrence of the lowering of picture quality due to the insufficient amount of light at the connecting portion between the GLV elements. SOLUTION: A GLV element train part 32a in a GLV optical modulator 32 is composed of a first GLV element train 40 and a second GLV element train 40 parallel to each other and, in addition, these first and second GLV element trains are staggeringly arranged. Interval between elements in the first and the second GLV element trains 40 and 41 is determined so as to connect the effective diffraction regions of the respective GLV elements to each other in the longitudinal direction of the element train. In addition, the respective GLV elements 20 in the first GLV element train 40 and the respective GLV elements 20 in the second GLV element train 41 are overlapped to each other in the longitudinal direction of the element train.</p> |
