<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for preparing a new catalyst for manufacturing methacrylic acid at a high yield by catalytically oxidizing methacrolein in the gas phase. SOLUTION: This catalyst for manufacturing methacrylic acid contains at least, molybdenum, phosphorus and vanadium, and is obtained by thermally treating slurry containing a catalytic component at 110-180 deg.C in the presence of a saturated steam for 5-12 hours. Next, the powder obtained by drying this slurry is thermally treated at 180-300 deg.C under an air circulation for 0.5-24 hours. In addition, the slurry is shaped under a wet condition and further is again thermally treated at 300-500 deg.C.</p> |
