PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a catalyst fro purifying exhaust gas which can prevent injury due to sulfur by a method wherein after a catalyst carrier in which a NOx storing material is uniformly dispersed in a porous carrier is prepared, the catalyst carrier is dipped in a solution in which a noble metal compound is dissolved or dispersed in a solvent, in which the NOx storing material is not dissolved, to cause the catalyst carrier to carry the noble metal. SOLUTION: For manufacturing the exhaust gas purifying catalyst for purifying exhaust gas of autombile, in a first step, a catalyst carrier in which a NOx storing material is uniformly dispersed in a porous carrier is prepared. As the porous carrier, alumina, titania, silica are used and as elements for constituting the NOx storing material, any one of metals such as alkali metal, alkaline earth metal, and rare earth element is used. Next, in a second step, the catalyst carrier is dipped in a solution in which a noble metal compound is dissolved or dispersed in a solvent, in which the NOx storing material uniformly dispersed in the catalyst carrier is not dissolved, to cause the catalyst carrier to carry a noble metal. As the noble metal, Pt, Rh, Pd, Ag, Au are used. |
