PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To produce a propylene/olefin copolymer continuously and stably for a long time by copolymerizing propylene with an olefin other than propylene in the presence of an olefin polymerization catalyst comprising a specified solid catalyst component (component A), an organoaluminum compound and optionally an electron donor in two stages in which the weight ratio between the reactants are different from each other. SOLUTION: Component A is prepared by spraying a melt of a mixture represented by formula I (wherein R is a 1-10C alkyl; and (m) is 3-6), cooling the sprayed melt and partially removing the alcohol from the cooled product to obtain a solid component represented by formula II (wherein R is defined as in formula I; and (n) is 0.4-2.8) and having an X-ray diffraction spectrum which, as compared with an X-ray diffraction spectrum of formula I, has no new peak at a diffraction angle 2θof 7-8 or has a peak having an intensity at most 2.0 times as high as that of the maximum peak appearing at a diffraction angle 2θof 8.5-9 deg., and a titanium halide compound (e.g. titanium tetrachloride) and an electron donor are brought into contact with the solid component at 110-135 deg.C in an aliphatic hydrocarbon solvent having a boiling point of 90-180 deg.C.
