The present invention discloses an apparatus and process for the production of combustible gases from water and lipid photocatalysis, the apparatus being designed to utilize solar energy for inducing photochemical reactions, photolysis or photosynthesis in general, the object particularly being the production of gaseous combustible from liquid state substances such as: vegetable oils or water; for use mainly in internal combustion engines. Any type of solar light concentrating means is used for this purpose, such as convex lenses, concave mirrors, etc., causing the solar light thus concentrated to impinge upon a photocatalytic surface, which is formed by cellulose, and totally immersed in a liquid substance inside a container. A mixture of combustible gases is released from said photocatalytic surface, and from said liquid, the composition of which depends on the liquid substance to be used. A control over the diverse photochemical reactions is made by regulating the solar radiation which is absorbed by the photocatalytic surface, said control comprising: first, using a suitable dye for dyeing said photocatalytic surface; second, varying solar radiation concentration upon said photocatalytic surface, by a light concentrating system.
