<p>A deployable radiator (50, 52) is folded or in a "stowed" configuration over a fixed radiator (38) when a satellite (10) is in a launch vehicle. The deployable radiator (50, 52) thereby serves as insulation for the satellite (10) when heat rejection is not necessary. When heat rejection becomes necessary, the deployable radiators (50, 52) are deployed whereby unwanted heat is rejected from the satellite (10). The deployable radiators (50), (52) therefore serve a dual purpose, functioning as insulators for part of a mission and radiators for the remainder. <IMAGE></p> |
