The use of electronic data interchange for passing commercial data between companies involves strictly defined sequences of data and events. A system for defining these interchanges uses forms for defining the data structures and functions to process the data. Hence for a supplier placing an electronic order the data to be sent includes invoicing and order data and payment and authorisation data. - The data for each such message is defined and a number of functions associated with it. The functions can cause reading and writing of data; timing and intiation of events; or invoking specially written functions. |
