PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To inexpensively and accurately control the position of an optical waveguide and to reduce an optical connection loss. SOLUTION: In the case of controlling the position of a moving side optical waveguide 4 opposite to a fixed side optical fiber 1, the waveguide 4 is opposed to the fiber 1 including an optical waveguide type diffraction grating 2 in its inside and the waveguide 4 is moved along the end face of the fiber 1. Position detecting light with wavelength Bragg-reflected by the grating 2 is projected from the waveguide 4 to the end face of the fiber 1, the reflected light of the position detecting light Bragg-reflected by the grating 2 in the fiber 1 is received by the waveguide 4, the light quantity of the received reflected light is measured, and the position of the waveguide 4 is controlled based upon the light quantity of the reflected light.
