METHOD FOR DETECTING CARBOXYLIC ACID IN SPECIMEN

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To detect a carboxylic acid present in a specimen by bringing the specimen into contact with a metal salt having reactivity with the carboxylic acid to form a metal-carboxylic acid complex and monitoring the catalytic activity of the complex. SOLUTION: A specimen is brought into contact with a metal salt having reactivity with carboxylic acid present in the specimen to form a metal- carboxylic acid complex catalyzing a calorimetric reaction. The complex can be detected by monitoring its catalytic activity. The complex can be detected by the activity catalyzing the oxidation to the coloring state of a chromogen by an oxidizing agent. The metal salt includes a water phase present in a developing system in which it is dissolved. The metal salt also includes a solid support on which it is present. The pattern of a free fatty acid(FFA) produced by enteric parasitic helminth can be used for the classification of enteric parasitic helminth. A free fatty acid parasitic helminth metabolic product having five or six carbon atoms including valeric acid and caproic acid can be detected. The diagnosis is performed by bringing the specimen into contact with the chromogen and the oxidizing agent.
