PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a process for producing methylamine while suppressing the lowering of the activity of a zeolite catalyst in the methylamine production process and enabling the continuous use of a zeolite catalyst over a long period. SOLUTION: This process for the production of methylamine comprises the contact of methanol and ammonia, a methanol/methylamine mixture and ammonia or a methylamine mixture and ammonia with a zeolite catalyst layer. The zeolite catalyst layer is composed of at least two layers arranged in parallel (the plural zeolite catalyst layers arranged in parallel may be formed of the same kind of zeolite catalyst or different zeolite catalysts) and the temperature difference between the inlet and the outlet of each zeolite catalyst layer is maintained within 5-70 deg.C during the reaction.
