The equipment comprises two adaptors fitted to opposite sides of the vehicle within its wheelbase. Each adaptor consists of a casting (1) fixed to the underside of the vehicle or integrated into its bodywork, and a wheeled casting (2) which can be lowered from it by two hydraulic or pneumatic jacks (3) or air cushions with recoil springs (8), or endless-thread screw pantographs. The wheels (6), driven by electric motors, are set at right angles to the road wheels and coated with rubber or similar material. They are steerable by electromagnets or jacks so that each is parallel to the wheel at the opposite end of the other adaptor.
