PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject low-viscosity composition, excellent in metal workability and flame retardance, hardly carrying over the fluid at the time of working, capable of readily treating wastewater, economically advantageous and useful for grinding, cutting, etc., of a metal by blending specific amounts of a base oil with water and a specific metallic sulfonate. SOLUTION: This metal working fluid composition comprises (A) 50-98.9wt.% base oil which is a mineral or a synthetic oil, (B) 0.1-49wt.% over-based alkali metallic sulfonate (e.g. sodium sulfonate or, lithium sulfonate having 100mgKOH/ g base number) and (C) 1-25wt.% water and, as necessary, further (D) 0.05-20wt.% sulfur-based extreme-pressure additive. Furthermore, the composition is preferably prepared as an inverted emulsion. |
