PURPOSE:To maintain tight contact of an immersion roll with a metallic strip even if the tension of the metallic strip decreases in order to prevent wrinkling of the plating surface thereof at the time of subjecting the steel strip to continuous hot dip metal coating, by mounting a thick plate made of a heat resisting steel on the upper part of the immersion roll for guiding the metallic strip. CONSTITUTION:The metallic strip 7 is wound partly on the immersion roll 4 in a hot dip metal coating bath 6. The strip 7 after the plating is emitted from the bath 6 as the roll 4 rotates. The heavy thick plate 9 made of the heat resisting steel is pivotally fitted to a frame of a plating machine 1 via a link 10 at the top end of the roll 4. The roll 4 is lowered by the weight of the plate 9 when the tension of the strip 7 moving in the bath 6 decreases. Generation of a spacing between the strip 7 and the roll 4 and the consequent intrusion of the bath 6 into such spacing are thereby obviated. Oscillation of the strip 7 arising from the broken balance in the horizontal direction by the plating bath intruding into the spacing between the roll 4 and the strip 7 and the generation of wrinkles 8 on the plating surface of the strip 7 are thus prevented.
