<p>A method for operating a luggage protection system, wherein the following steps are carried out at the check-in desk and/or after X-ray scanning: data specific for each item of luggage is input; a first tag (12) or electronic chip attached to the luggage and comprising readable encoded data is produced; and the data is read out and processed to enable the protection system to operate in a specific way for each item of luggage (16). For this purpose, a wrapping (14, 15) is placed around each item, a second tag/handle assembly (13) or an electronic chip on a handle incorporated into the wrapping and bearing encoded data and readable data is placed on each item of luggage, and/or a luggage manifest for a specific destination is produced. The method is preferably used for wrapping items of luggage in airports.</p> |
