The invention is based on a drive unit, especially a geared motor for a windscreen wiper of a motor vehicle, which has a transmission housing (11) for a crankwheel (14) which is borne on its one side such that it can rotate in the transmission housing, and is axially supported and is jointed such that it can pivot on the transmission part (26) belonging to a downstream-arranged oscillating transmission, eccentrically on the other side. In such a drive unit, the crankwheel (14) is subjected to alternating loads and therefore tends to make tilting movements which reduce the efficiency and cause noise. The crankwheel is therefore axially supported on the other side outside the crank radius by means of a ring (40) which has an opening for the pivotable transmission part to pass through.
